Contendo summer overview and what’s coming up

The end of the first quarter of this year marked an important milestone for our small company. After months of hard work, we have finally released our first product, Contendo 2024.1. So what kind of witchcraft this Contendo thing is? Well, obviously not an ordinary one, doh. Common people would call it a content management server, and they would be right, but we call it The Content Management Server. Obviously it is the best tool you can imagine, bug free and all that stuff but aside from that, it represents a solid foundation for what we plan to build in the near future. On a more serious note, it is a very simple & lightweight CMIS 1.1 standard implementation inspired by all the good software using only bare necessities (The Jungle Book anyone?) to deliver great value through simplicity.

That being said, Contendo has exactly ZERO compile-time dependencies and weights around 1MB. If you were to build an application which handles any kind of content or a document in a simple, standardized and portable way, then Contendo just might be what you need. In the future, I intend to write more about the technical aspects of Contendo, but for now let’s just say that it is written in modern Java (21+), runs on openj9 and uses an interesting and somewhat less-known MySQL document store feature in combination with classic MySQL relational database features. Last but not the least, behind the scenes Contendo is powered by OpenLiberty. We have never ever built a product before, so there were a lot of ‘firsts’ for us in this process and I guess many await. All in all, one big learning experience. So, if all this sounds interesting to you, please hop on to our flyer-like https://www.contendo.io website to get some more info on what we are building. Also, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
