Last article was a short introduction to our first official product, Contendo 2024.1. You may have noticed the number in the product’s name and albeit unlikely, wondered what does it mean. This article will give some more insights to what this number represents and what it means for the potential customers.
Versioning
While we were thinking of how to version our product, of course, Semantic versioning was one of the first on the list. I won’t go into details of how Semantic versioning works, but for us at this point it was a bit too much to maintain. Our focus was giving our customers a simple, steady and predictable release schedule.
This is one of the main reasons we have chosen to use a simple year.quarter versioning system. By using this versioning system we think it is very easy for our customers to manage and plan their own products because they always know when the next release is coming and what to expect.
Release schedule
Based on the versioning system we chose, it is not hard to derive the release schedule. Basically we will have four Contendo releases per year, each coming out at the end of the year’s quarter.
Contendo 2024.2
We are on schedule for our second release of year. Most notable feature we plan to release is the implementation of AtomPub protocol. This feature will enable various tools supporting CMIS standard such as Photoshop, LibreOffice etc. to easily configure Contendo as their remote server for storing content and documents. Upcoming release will also include some bug fixes and improvements.
That’s it for today!
